Ancient Greece is famous for its architecture. One of the most famous Ancient Greek pieces of architecture is the Parthenon. Here is a list of my top three famous Greek architectural pieces.
The Parthenon is a temple dedicated to Athena because the people of Athens considered to be their patron. The original Parthenon got knocked down and replaced by the Parthenon we see today. Originally the Parthenon's main purpose was to shelter a statue of Athena made from ivory and gold.
The Erechtheion was made to accommodate religious rituals. While the Erechtheion was being made was a very hard time for Athenians because they had suffered a major defeat to Syracuse. When the Erechtheion was finished a short time after the Athens fell to Sparta.
The Temple of Poseidon is located in Sounion which was a sacred area since the Bronze age. The Temple of Poseidon originally had thirty-four columns but now has only thirteen, four of the columns were rebuilt in the 1950's.
